A) How exactly would the stay puft marshmallow man have destroyed the whole world? He was relatively very small, and seemed to be made of... well marshmallows. Surely we could have destroyed him in some mundane fashion, even in a scenario where crossing the streams was not possible. I mean sure, back in ancient times (6000 BC) we'd have been in trouble. But now? Totally unrealistic! But I'm prepared to be convinced otherwise. Thoughts?

and / or

B) Would society still disapprove of prostitution, if as many women paid for sex as men? I think the reason it is primarily stigmatized is because of marriage being the corner-stone of nearly every civilization. It might also be the reason why prostitution is also a feature of nearly ever civilization. However, the testosterone levels in males is higher - so consequently the aggression and sex drive are too - thus men seek it out more than women do (nature not culture)... etc. Anyway. What do you think?

Choose, and perish.

It wasn't really the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man.  It was Gozer the Gozarian, Sumerian god of destruction.  He came in the form the ghostbusters selected through their thought (dammit Ray).

Who says women aren't paying for it?  They are much better at keeping secrets than we are :)

Half a gallon of gas would have taken down the marshmallow man in a napalmy blaze.

And if women's use of male providers was nearly as high as female providers I think it would make things a lot easier for me to meet some of these fine lady posters.

A) Because...movie.

B) An interesting supposition. My guess is that it would actually be even more condemned. Think about it: while female sexuality has become more acceptable over time (thanks in large part to academics like Kinsey and the sex positivity movement as a whole), women are still expected to repress their sexualities to a much more significant degree than our male counterparts (think 'slut' vs. 'stud'). Again, there continues to be quite a bit of progress in Western society's acceptance of female sexuality, but there's still a lot more progress to be made. That said, you're right that heterosexual marriage is still considered to be the main social institution in our culture, but think about the people who tend to oppose things like same-sex marriage, prostitution, pornography, etc. Such folks tend to share one commonality: opposition to anything that threatens the patriarchal structure of the traditional, American, nuclear family. A threat to patriarchy means a threat to the status quo, and that's pretty much been the common element in any instance of oppression in history: when those in power feel as though their legitimacy is being threatened or even questioned...BAM! Down you go, women, blacks, Jews, queers, etc!
So to bring my little tangent back to the central argument, no, I don't think that prostitution would be more acceptable if women clients became more common because, quite frankly, the reactionary folks just aren't down with anything that might interfere with their Leave It To Beaver pipe dreams.

Tobi you are a very creative writer.  I agree it would never be accepted.  #1 most men dont play/hobby because they cant.  Money, work, time, fear, brains etc.  The fact that they cant makes them not want anyone else to be able to play.  Its human nature if someone cant have something they dont want others to have it. Why do athletes with money do all kinds of crazy stuff??  Because they can.. #2- A halfway attractive girl from 18-55 can get laid within 5 minutes of leaving the house any time they want.  They dont pay for it because they dont have to.

My thought is its too taboo to ever be accepted in my lifetime.  Its marijuania isnt legal yet.....

Biologically speaking...Reproductive success depends on how many offspring you leave to the next generation.  For males, breeding with the most number of females will usually get you the most offspring.  For females, getting the biggest and best male to stick around and help you with the offspring is the way to go.  So men are genetically programmed to be promiscuous while females are programmed to hold on to the best male they can find (for reproductive reasons).

Humans though, like to have sex for fun.  It's a damned shame that the people who talk the most about this being a free country are often the ones who want to limit people's freedom the most.  I think a "mind your own business" party would be a good start to setting the politicians in order.

Little bit of a different tone to it relative to yours...but, sounds like we'd get along with each other.  My party is the "Leave me the fuck alone" party

Sweet dude...you're in.

We recently changed the name from "stop fucking with our insurance, our taxes, our guns, our private information, our retirement, our personal lives, our religions, our schools, our places of work, our cars, our land, our water, our natural resources, our hospitals, our drugs, our banks, our homes, our kids, our women, our men, our marriages and/or partnerships, our phones, our computers, our light bulbs, our TVs, our economy, our bridges, our speed limits, our baseball players, our football team names...in short, leave us the fuck alone.  Oh yeah, and STOP CHANGING THE FUCKING FOOD PYRAMID".

You can see why we changed the name.  The previous one was just too ambiguous.

Ally actually texted me a couple of weeks ago asking me if I wanted to go see Flashdance with her. I didn't know what the fuck she was talking about so I Googled it. Had to explain that I was still semen back then.
