absolutely - independence overused and increasingly risky; downtown easier than one would imagine; beachwood or willoughby good east side options that are not far from downtown
Many downtown hotels have key-card elevators. Plus, parking can be an issue. I agree about Independence though. What about farther down I-77 like in Fairlawn--lots of reasonable hotels at I-77 and Rt. 18. Better for us Canton/Akron guys
There are plenty of hotels that aren't key-card; if you'd like to message me, I'd be happy to share them with you.
if you're not renting a car, Independence can be a bit on the mundane side from time to time; I don't know if uber is in Independence, but it is in Cleveland. It's fairly easy to get around.
Parking could be an issue in downtown Cleveland, but there are lots of inexpensive parking lots and street parking, as well as parking attached to hotels. While on the more expensive side from time to time, it's not the worst.
It's up to you, honestly. Lots of busts happen in Independence, and the hotels are definitely helping with them. Being discreet and screening goes a long way, but ultimately the risk/reward factor differs from person to person.
