I just did a search on google of my handle and found 2 pages of links to TER (and one to IMDB when I used to post there on the movie forums under the same name!).

I guess it is to be expected and it shocked me, but ultimately isn't that surprising. It is certainly something I never considered.

I remember when I signed up, without the intention of ever really getting involved, I used one of my common usernames.  My first post came across my google alerts within a couple days and I immediately contacted TER and had my handle changed to this.  Quite the bucket of ice water in your face, and I'm a techno geek and used to this, but it didn't occur to me at the time.

Anyone and I mean ANYONE can read all posts on all (except the mod only, provider only and reviewer only ) boards. Not only that ANYONE can lurk without a user name.

Thank you

I Googled my handle & found my own replies early on...   after I'd made a few posts under my handle which fortunately is not too obiviously linked to me.  However, I decided to use this one alias for message boards, the handle only for reviews.

and why the men have a handle or alias that they affiliate primarily with the hobby.

The fewer people in your personal life that know of this other persona the better (unless you have some VERY openminded loved ones). You never know when it could come up to bite you in the ass. That is a part of the risk we take being involved in this business.
