I got my flu shot a few days ago, and that got me wondering about other immunizations you can also ask for. I guess the other major one you can get is an immunization for Hepatitis A and B, and I am told that it is rare for anybody to even request those unless they work in the healthcare industry, or if they travel to other countries where this is a problem.
I want to put this question out there to my fellow hobbyists. Is it usual and/or recommended for people who play in this hobby to get immunized for hepatitis A and B? Are there other immunizations like that which are recommended for people who play in this hobby?
... and volunteer at a local hospital. Also, though I do not meet the age requirement, I was immunized against pneumonia. I have asthma, and am prone to colds. I received a pneumonia shot two years ago, and have not had a issues since.
Like you said, just tell them you travel outside of the U.S. often, and want any type of protection you can get. I work in healthcare, so yes, it usually is required by most hospitals before going to work for them.
I'd say if it is available, why not get it? I've had my Hep B since age 2, but more recently had both Hep A done and had to get my Tetanus re-done, as it was "expired". Most physicians won't even ask why you are requesting…and if they do, you can always say you are just overly cautious and that is usually the end of the conversation.
Firstly, thanks for the replies. I guess getting the Hep A/B should be on the list of vaccines to get then, as it is a way to be cautious, and I am all for that.
I googled this some more and found a list of other vaccines that are available at Costco's pharmacy and their prices. Actually, they are the only place that is very upfront about what they offer with their prices for each. Flu Shot (Influenza) $14.99 Hepatitis A $78.98 Hepatitis B $63.13 HPV (Gardasil) $153.99 Meningitis (MCV4) $126.73 Pneumonia $69.78 Shingles (Zostavax) $185.36 Tetanus (Td) $32.58 Tetanus/Whooping Cough (Tdap) $49.10 Twinrix (Hep A/B) $109.97 I guess I will look into what other items on this list are appropriate, if anybody wants to provide feedback as to which ones are recommended or completely unnecessary, please do so.
Hi Mr-Blonde, do you know if the vaccination for HPV is covered by a regular medical insurance?
