Hi everyone, I have issues with cell phone reception at my apartment. A prospective client sent an e-mail asking me to call him, so I tried by using Google voice from my computer (went straight to voicemail) How would this show up on someone's caller ID? I called from my gmail account associated with my work as a provider, but of course, I worry that since the computer's registered with my actual information, this is a risky move. I usually just communicate with people via e-mail, but this individual sent an anonymized inquiry through back page, so I couldn't reply by e-mail, just call.
I played with google voice for a short time.. At one point I was pondering with the idea to use it as a hobby number..
From a Android SmartPHone if you call another user in the US on the caller Id it shows a completely different number.
I just purchased my first smartphone, a Droid X. Once I got into the various forums for my phone, I found a procedure that allows me to make and receive calls with my Google Voice number. The GV number shows on the receiver's caller-id, and calls to the GV number ring my cell phone. The bonus is that these calls are carried over the 3G data, so don't use my cell minutes.
I imagine there are similar procedures for iPhone.
I've been GV for my hobby number for over a month. It works great with my EVO and allow texting from the GV number via the GV website. When using the GV number for phone calls or texting it always shows as the GV number.
Other benefits with smart phone is DND so call made to the GV don't ring through to your cell or other numbers.
shows up as your anonymous google number. I just signed up for this too and I tested it, as long as you call through your logon on the computer or call your google voicemail first to place the call.
