I try to participate in discussions but it takes almost 5 hours for it to post! Is this going to keep being like this?  Is it because I am new? Its very annoying.   Who does it take so long?

I do have a real life, as do all the moderators, and sometimes we are away from the computer for several hours.  If you post when we are not online, it will delay your posts.  If you have been posting a while, ask your regional moderator to un-moderate you, so your posts will not need to be approved.
