I'm a newbie and I'm wondering if you do a 3way and the two females DATY and then DFK with you, doesn't that expose you to the same possibility of STDs as DATY yourself?
I would like to think two providers wouldn't DATY is there was any chance that one of them had an STD.
I think the chances would be tiny. The whole subject of DATY with providers can be somewhat controversial. Many hobbyists do it (including myself), but some do not, citing health risks. There was a pretty good thread on the subject recently on the National board -- check out the link.

I'm not sure if messages of length are o.k. on this forum, but that last response really bothered me, and I think it needs to be responded to. I'm really surprised at how irresponsible this response is! I think that this response is exactly the reason that you should be careful and cautious in these situations. Such a flippant attitude about STDs is, at the very least, irresponsible on a public forum.
If contracting STDs doesn't bother someone, that's their choice. Except that it isn't, because by going to providers, they expose countless others to the ramifications of their individual choice to "not worry" about STDs.
While the health risks of some STDs may be relatively minimal (none of them are completely without associated risks--certain "curable" or "chronic" STDs can have unforseen or even more harmful effects), there are other considerations, too.
First, just because you might not worry about an STD, doesn't mean that it's o.k. to subject others to it. Second, for the person who contracts it from you, the reaction to the "harmless" disease or virus might be very different, and much more harmful--consider chlamydia, which doesn't manifest itself in men (generally), but can damage a woman's reproductive organs. Third, just because you might not die from herpes or other STDs, doesn't mean it won't negatively affect your life. As unfortunate as it is, many people in this society still hold onto powerful and negative stigmas and stereotypes about people who have STDs. Consider how it will affect your life when you try to have a non-provider relationship and you have to tell the woman or man that you have an STD. Finally, passing viruses back and forth, especially ones that are treatable, but not curable, just encourages the development of drug-resistant strains, which harms even more people.
Hobbying might, to some extent, be a personal decision, but in a lot of ways, it is a very PUBLIC decision that affects lots of others' lives. I, for one, would err on the side of caution when engaging in hobbying, and not falling prey to the really myopic perspective that all STDs except HIV are not things to worry about.
