i noticed under info/policies there is a place to cancel membership? what exactly happens if i cancel my membership? do my reviews disappear too? if not, what does get cancelled?

...Your basic would continue. If you wanted your basic membership to be cancelled it probably wouldn't remove your reviews. Though if there were a reason such as suddenly needing to remove all trace for legal reasons (divorce, child custody and such) you could probably get that done by explaining to Admin what's going on.
If you want to remove all traces of your existence here, you can explain to Admin and they can remove all of your posts and change your reviews to an anonymous handle, and close your account. I've seen a few cases where this was done.
I don't know if that process is reversible, i.e. get your old handle back and use the same email. You might want to use Contact Us to ask Admin how that would work, if you decided to return someday.
