Looking at a porn site today.
Clicked on a video and up pops this FBI screen saying my files have been encrypted.
Anybody else seen this shit?
Nothing has happened to my laptop that I know of.
Not sure what it was all about.
Thanks,
p

Some sort of a scam I guess (hoping) but I don't know how and why it happens. Scary for sure.

Crazy huh!
I bet it is just malware
To make sure your laptop okay, run Malwarebytes , free or paid, both work good
tried to put the link in , but it is a secure site, ( https)  so couldn't post link , not sure why so
just Google Malwarebytes it is a dot org site, fyi.

good luck X

Malwarebytes (free program) to get rid of it.  May have to run in safe mode.

I had to get help but got to Malwarebytes which I had already on my desk top, through safe mode.
Microsoft also has a free downloadable virus removal tool.  http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx   Found left over fragments of the scam.

BTW, paying the scammers does not guarantee the problem will be removed.

It's a virus I think.  It's also a scam to get you to send them money. Happened to me as we'll. according to the geek who fixed my comp there is also one that's says you've illegally downloaded music.

1. Force quit the browser.
2. Restart the browser in a safe mode
(Mac- shift +double click on application like Firefox, pc- ctrl+double click)
3. Select NOT to open previous tabs.
4. Empty the history and cookies.

Hope that helps.

It's not real. Do not install anything. Do you not send money to anyone. Do not fill out any forms. Just close it and move along.

they've stolen.  It is real in that your computer is unusable until it's fixed.
It is a Trojan, Malware:  Ransomware to be specific.   They block your screen, maybe hack your camera to make you think you are being watched.
Doing a hard shut down helps as does using another computer to look up how to deal with it.  These malware are constantly evolving & ways to remove them vary.  But it is doable.
