Verify through employee

I certainly support providers need for security and am willing to be screened. But I'm trying to figure out the employee verification process.

I did find a thread here at http://www.theeroticreview.com/discussion_boards/viewmsg.asp?MessageID=78050&boardID=33&page=6 that said things like:
--"The Provider will call the main switchboard number..."
--"This is Dr. dentist's office calling, can I speak with Joe Hobby. "
--"The phone number he gives me needs to verifiable as belonging to the company he says he works for (will usually be listed on the company website) "

None of these work for me. I work at a very large company (over 30,000 employees), everything works on voice mail so I have no secretary, and no main switchboard. The phone number of my particular building is not published.

Anyone know how to get around this problem?

Is there a way the provider can get through to the phone . . .

on your desk so she can hear your voice through the work number (asking by name or ext. #)? That way at least she knows you work there which is the purpose of this procedure.

If you become a p411 or DateCheck member, they require the same thing but can get around it by having you provide other information. You can talk to them directly about that, just be very careful about what info you provide. Then all you'll need is a couple of provider references. If you don't have them, once you're on p411 they list providers that are newbie friendly and will screen you directly via the info you provide. Again, you must be careful it's not info that could lead to identity theft. But well-reviewed providers (another must for us newbies) can generally be counted on to be discreet and to not misuse your info. A little trust is required to get started.

I have a direct number to my desk. (Although I'm only there about 1 day a week.)

I have no problem giving a provider that direct number, but how do they know it is my office number when it isn't published as my company? I guess they could try numbers one or two up or down from mine and ask them is this company XYZ to verify.
