... into the Gullible Bin.
You are an unknown in a large pool of non-LE and maybe-LE pebbles (potential clients). Some of the guys in that pool are TER savvy non-LE, non-TER non-LE, etc., and maybe even some non-savvy LE.
Her first screen, a 50% deposit, removes the TER-savvy non-LE and savvy LE guys out of the pool. That leaves gullible non-LE and gullible LE.
Let's say she gets money from one of those gullible fish. (Yeah, I just switched from a pool of pebbles to pool of fish.) Ka-ching!
Then, without using P411 or calling references or anything else, her next screen would be to meet the fish to determine if they are non-LE or LE, a risky proposition. ... Wait a second. She's got free money (50% of the fee) at zero risk and zero effort (in the room). Why bother with the next risky step at all? Kiss your deposit goodbye and she stops taking your calls and emails.
A lot of guys won't submit deposits even to well established and well reviewed Providers. Your scenario sounds 1000x worse.
Try something else or someone else.
Good luck!

As a newbie, I'm considering using a provider for the first time, but this will most likely be a one time thing at least for several months or possible a few years. As a result, I'm just looking for one provider. Should I go through the process of getting myself verified through one of the verification sites such as P411? Or use the money saved from joining a verification site and combine it to get a provider that is more upscale? Is giving employment info and personal info to the provider directly to verify I'm a legitimate client worth it, if it's going to be a one time thing? I have seen some offer a 50% deposit as an alternative to screening if you don't have references, is that a good option also to consider? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you.
