so i've decided i'd like to be "deflowered" by a professional. my questions:

1) is that a dumb idea?

You might want to look for a more experienced provider with a good rep, she'll be more likely to get into leading you into it.  Plus, if she's good, an early pop won't kill you, she'll get you up again.  To be young again and have those kinds of things to worry about!  Good luck!

It all depends on what city you're in. Some cities have some really well run agencies but some cities like here in LA, they suck. There was one agency-Platinum Connections that had the best and hottest girls around and they charged a premium but in this case, you got what you paid for.

I agree that you let the girl know you're new and that will set the course for what will happen.

Well, if you go with an independent, it will be a lot easier if the girl sits and chats with you and is "off the clock" whereas most agency girls will be on the clock.
If I were you, I'd book the hour and have an option of another hour if you get along well...
Set it up in advance and there's no problem. If you are a quick draw and don't want to stay 2 hours, you can just opt for the one hour.

A word of warning:
