Pardon my naive newbie question, but where exactly are you suppose to leave the tip should you decide to give one?  It is clear that there is a lot of etiquette and protocol associated with leaving the initial donation (e.g., white envelope, don't talk about it, etc.), at least for a new client.  But how is the tip suppose to be conveyed?  Should you just leave some cash on the dresser, hand it to the provider and say "thanks", or what exactly?   I hope this is not a truly stupid question, but there are so many other do's and don'ts that I thought I should ask.  Thanks.

Just leave it on the dresser. She will know to look for it there, and will usually pick it up silently or say thanks, and put it away or take it to the bathroom to count.

I've had some guys (new clients and old) put the donation in a thank you/appreciation card, which is really sweet, or put it in a bank envelope marked "happy birthday" (lol), or even just drop it and say something like, "can you dispose of that when you get a chance?" Just make sure the cash is, like you said, in an envelope, and you shouldn't have any problems leaving it on the dresser in plain sight.

Thanks much Mare.  I am not sure that I completely understand your reply though.  Are you saying that I should have two envelopes on me - one for the initial donation that I dispense with upon arrival and one for a tip should I decide to give one before I leave?  (I had presumed that the provider would have already taken the initial envelope before anything important began, so I couldn't just slip somemore cash into that envelope.)  Again, I hope this question is not too detailed and/or stupid.  Thanks.

I like to use VS giftcards, myself, if she has earned a tip.

..once the session is completed there shouldn't be any concerns. I would not be offended by this. Or, just set it down in plain sight so she sees you do it. You are right, the initial envelope will already be dispensed of.. for a tip, cash is always appreciated; gift cards are great too as hornung suggested.

After getting to know a provider, I tend to try to think of small gifts that might mean something to her, and have only tipped cash a few times.  One of the agencies I use occasionally runs a $$-off special for one reason or another, like a certain day of the week for their Yahoo group members.  Unless I was being bamboozled, I learned that $$ came out of the provider's pocket instead of the agency, so I come prepared to tip cash (like having a loose fifty in my pants pocket so I do not have to fish around in my wallet) for a good session  on one of those days.  Usually I just discretely slip a bill in in her hand during our good-bye hug.  One time, after an incredible session with an indy, I slipped something extra into the original envelope (which she had not yet picked up) while she was getting dressed after the session. Never had any complaints.

just before I leave I take her hand into mine and put the cash in and close her hand while kissing her good bye.

Every time I do that the ladies' face brightens up with a big simile. And next time I visit them they show how much they appreciate my gesture from the last time!

one of the best tips a lady can receive is a repeat visit.  I always send an e-mail thank you a day or so afterwards and then will inquirer about another date with her if I'm going to be in her area soon.

Actually did that once - got a big laugh...

Never thought about putting it in her hand as one guy posted - maybe that works but since the original gift is "supposed" to be done non-chalant I'm not sure why a tip wouldn't also be.

I have tucked it into the envelope with the original or under or next to the envelope - typically.  I think placing in two different spots is a little "hide and seek" tacky.

Now understand that almost all of the good/great providers I've seen are not FIXATED on the envelope and most don't touch it until I've gone.  Not that it is universal, but I'm always a little wary of providers who dive for it right away and hide the cash.  EVERY RIP OFF I'VE HAD DID THAT.  Again, not all that do it are bad but almost all of my favs do not dive or count in front of me - I think that is as tacky as handing cash over instead of a discreet envelope.  So the envelope is still there untouched when I'm dressing and getting ready to leave.  So I can slip it in and they either think I pre-tipped or may see me sweetening the pot.  Or if it is under/beside they know.  I often get a cell phone call in the elevator or in the car thanking me.
