I am looking forward to an evening out that will start with an "appetizer" at my hotel, then out to dinner, and returning to my hotel for "dessert". Should the gift be visible at the start of the evening, on return to the hotel, or both? Is there a general "rule of etiquette" on when my companion will pick up the gift? I can be flexible, and just want to be sure I handle the evening appropriately. Thanks.
I wait, just in case it's a rip-off. If she asks for it before we play, I assure her that her gift is coming, possibly with a bonus if she's good. I've never had one insist on a gift upfront, but if I ever do, I threaten to call a back-up provider if she plays hard-ball with me. They know the game--the serious ones will understand.
I always bring a gift for the ladies I have been privileged to visit, and just "sensing her taste" it always seemed appropriate for her to be given the gift at the beginning of the date, though I urge you to "trust your feelings" about the individual lady and give the gift when you feel it!!
