When I write reviews, they tend to be detailed because I don't want to just describe the encounter, I want to put the reader in my place and let him imagine that he's actually there.  When you're reading a review and come across an acronym, it tends to take you right out of the fantasy, in my opinion, even if it's just for the brief second your brain needs to substitute the phrase (and if you don't know what the abbreviation is at all, it's like hitting a brick wall).
