I understand how to tell the difference between someones real handle and an alias on the boards.
Most PM's come from people with reviews and they are easy to verify so most of the time it's not an issue. However I got one that had no reviews/no white lists when I searched the name and it got me wondering if it were a real handle or possibly an alias.
If I get a PM from someone it sounds like the only way to determine if it is an alias or not is to search the boards, however if that alias or handle hasn't posted on any boards then there would still be no way to tell that I am aware of
How would I know if a person who has sent me a mail message is sending it from an alias? When I look up the handle that sent me the message it says it has no reviews and no white lists, but I don't know if it is the persons actual handle with no reviews/white lists or their alias
All usernames have yellow envelopes, whether they are VIP or not. Only VIPs can send and receive PMs, but all basic members still have the yellow envelope by their name. No envelope means it's an alias, and all aliase can send and receive PMs because only VIPs can have an alias.
Then you can tell. If there is a yellow envelope by the poster's handle, it is a username. If there is no envelope, it is an alias. As far as reviews and whitelists, aliases can also have reviews and whitelists.
