Never done this outside Albuquerque, New Mexico. Not sure WHY providers visit other cities. For fun, I guess? I think it would be nice to visit some places. Do you raise rates to compensate for air tickets/hotel stay? By how much? How do you choose hotels? What should I know about touring?
Curious and contemplating some trips. Maybe a test-drive 3-day trip somewhere close.
It's been said that Las Vegas is nice this time of year. Given that ABQ rates are lower, it would be cool to bump them by about $50/hr. I know a guy there that's easy to screen that's waiting for your arrival. ***ME***
But a little birdie already mentioned that to you, or so I've heard.
The first is the need to cover your cost of travel and hotel. Some cities, like NYC, are quite expensive, so you'll want to add something, others are not so bad but it may depend on the time of year. (For example, Boston is not too bad except that in the fall, the rates go sky high.)
The second is to try and match your rates to gals who work in the city who are more or less your equal in looks and services.
I know it's a long schlep, but if Boston is usually very friendly to visitors.
Good ideas. I just need to figure out my traveling costs so I don't come back in the hole. And comparing the other provider rates is easily doable on this site...
I think I may stick to cities close to me at first. Then branch out. Are you in Boston, baby? Lots of cities I would love to visit if this touring thing works out. And countries too! Though I have NO idea how to go about THAT.
I take trips overseas often and it would be nice to do this out there too. Well, in countries where I won't get stoned. I'm thinking Vegas, Phoenix, NYC, Boston, Rio, Australia... Oh, but I'm getting ahead of myself. I just know how to advertise in the USA. And am worried about going to nearby cities. I'll pace myself, see how well I'm received, and listen to the advice of my buddies here.
They post on the local board of the city they're contemplating visiting to get a feel for how much interest there might be. The problem of course is that sometimes guys don't follow through on their promises, so you are taking a chance of not covering expenses. It's a gamble I suppose, but if you get a few new good clients out of it you may reap some longer term dividends. Maybe tour a city you would like to vacation in even if you weren't working.
do research on the area you are contemplating travel. What do other ladies charge? Are there other traveling ladies in the area (regional board should help by looking for their ads) or does it appear to be a dead zone?
Put out a feeler (no pun intended) about 6 weeks out. If there is enough interest, plan the trip and do the weekly ad post.
Southwest has reasonably priced flights to many cities. If for some reason you don't make the trip, the $ from the flight can be used up to a year later as a credit for another flight. No, I don't work for them.
I'm guessing that you will pick up more dates the closer your trip gets. Sure, some guys might cancel, put you have continued to stay on the radar of guys who are hoping to see you but have difficulty in arranging around work.
BTW, there are non-stop flights from ABQ to Florida.
Strapping on my feelers. Yeah! That sounds like a good idea, Imallin. If I get no responses, that tells me something! And a place I would like to see. So if no one is interested after I get there, I can still have fun. This is sounding better.
If you go visit everyone who's posted, you'll earn a free flight quickly. I propose you make that free flight to Phx, it's only an hour air time from Albq. and I volunteer to pick you up at the airport
This is looking doable. If I'm successful in my first city I'll continue on and see if I can rack up those frequent flyer miles! Would be fun to put some faces to these posters. I hope to meet you!
Keystonekid is doing his part to get you to Florida. All I can do is add my vote, too.
Besides, what could be more of a contrast from New Mexico to Florida? High desert mountains to tropical beaches and fruity drinks with umbrellas.
I will do my part by including a helpful link to a post by a successful touring provider. Sophie Simone seems to know what she is doing and has some good advice.
