I'm from Australia and travelling to the US shortly. I've joined TER and contacted an agency.

How exactly do they verify me on TER - do I need to do anything other than be a VIP member?

TER isn't really a verification site, though if you have seen some providers and asked for (and been given) whitelist referrals, some providers will accept those as a reference.  

Another site, P411, verifies your real information and is more commonly used as a proxy for references, though some providers will still ask for references, particularly if you are a new p411 member and do not have any "okays."

Good travels

A provider or agency might look at your TER persona if you have multiple reviews or a long standing posting history. Simply joining TER does nothing as far as verification, and being a VIP does not matter at all towards that purpose.

TER exists as a review board - hobbyists write reviews of their experiences, and talk about the hobby on various discussion boards like this one. To learn more about TER, check out the self-help center, the life preserver near the heading of this page.

Verification services, like P411 or Date-check, are what you want if you are looking for references.
