I had my first experience with a provider 4 days ago. Yesterday and today I have a fever. This has got me worried. How fast can symptoms show up for HIV?
It takes close to a month before you can do HIV testing. The tests look for antibodies that your system produces to fend off the virus. If symptoms showed up that fast, you would be able to test right away.
You seem very paranoid. You posted below about getting tested. The only way you will relax is if you go and get tested. Do it.
Dude first you should calm down. Second I am a doc and frankie is correct that it takes close to a month (more specific 3 weeks) for your immune system create ABs against the viral particles. The first test order to detect HIV is and ELISA that looks for ABs in your blood against HIV 1 antigen. If that test is positive it does not means you have HIV. It has to be confirmed with a Western Blot that looks for viral proteins in your blood. So any test will take 4 weeks to become +, if it doesn't becomes +, many docs will recomend a second test 3 months after. The very first symptoms are a flue like illness with inflammed lymph nodes that you can palpate. I think you are a bit over reacting.
I appreciate the answers I've received but no one has given me a straight answer. All I've been reading is that it takes three weeks to build antibodies. So does that mean that it will take three weeks before symptoms appear?
and you don't seem to be capable of drawing anything useful out of the answers already given to you. I have enclosed a link for you to do your own research.
If that doesn't help, then you better get to a Dr right away and have all the tests done.
