I am, aside from the occasional massage, completely new to this--though I have been lurking on TER for a little while now.

Earlier in the week I used a local (DC) agency's online form for new clients to get the ball rolling. Haven't heard a thing in response yet. I figured it would take a little while to check me out, but figured I would have heard SOMETHING by now.

Would it be a faux pas to call the number and inquire? I'm definitely not "just browsing." How long is reasonable.  I'm eager, but don't want to be disrespectful/pushy. :)

You're talking about an agency here, not an indy lady.  You will certainly not be perceived as anything other than a "paying customer" here.  If you can't get through to them on the phone, I might take that as a reason to "quickly" move on.  If they can't screen you quickly and reply to an inquiry...well that would speak volumes for how they may conduct business, and I wouldn't want to find out the hard way that their MO is unresponsiveness on my dime!

Running a screening check shouldn't take terribly long (hours at most) assuming you have given them sufficient info to verify you.  And in many cases, the screeners would contact you to ask for any additional info very quickly.

I recently submitted a pre-screening request with 2 local agencys.  Both responded in less than 12 hours.  Make sure you submit all the required info.  Date Check, Preferred 411, and any provider references you might already have.  The problem might be that they have nothing to work with.

then it just might be LE leaving the webpage up collecting names. (I'm giving an example, not saying that is the case here.)

There are many hobbyists who will NEVER fill out an online form, or use an agency.

Why? because it's only a matter of time...
