Hi everyone, I'm posting this here for two reasons.  One, I'm still a newbie who hast lots to learn, and this is the board where flaming is frowned upon.  OK, it turns out that late last month, I made an appointment with an agency provider for the end of this month.  Well, it turns out that I may need to cancel.  It has nothing to do with the agency or the provider.  They are great, but my finances this month are making it difficult to hobby.  Anyway, I have over two weeks until the appointment, and they have a VERY reasonable and accommodating cancellation policy, which is great.  I'm just feeling guilty about possibly having to cancel, because the provider and this agency do a great job, and they've also helped me get a nice start in this hobby.  I know, I know, I'm a mangina, white knight, girly man, psychologically unstable, you name it. Fine.  Feel free to think that, but I would appreciate some constructive honest feedback and perspective without the flames.

I know there's some uncertainty here.  But if there's a high probability that you're going to cancel (and there is), then you should do it now.  Your provider still has ample time to book with someone else.  But If you wait till the day before the appt to cancel, you're making her pay for your indecision.  --z

You do so respectfully, with as much notice as you can. The guilt just means you care about your commitments and your word and that you are decent. Don't sweat it. You will be cancelled on MANY times. And you should accept that gracefully as well. Contact them ASAP.

Finances change.  It's not a big deal.

You don't need to give a big explanation.  Just say you have to cancel and that you regret that.

never feel guilty..cancellations do happen..providers and clients both get sick..have family emergencies..have to work..just do not make it a habit..if you do you will get a rep as a time waster and/or flake..it will be very difficult to book any one then..the reputation you build in this hobby is the key to any future bookings you might want to have..

If I understand you correctly, you booked almost a month in advance. I suggest you wait  until you're 100%  sure you have $ to see someone. All agencies and providers appreciate advance bookings even if it's just a couple of days.

Is this the best hobby for you?  To each their own, but it seems like an expensive undertaking for a person who might struggle to pay bills depending on what month it is.

As for canceling, great advice above if you ask me.  It's not like it's the day before.

In the future though, don't book if there is a possibility of not having the money. At least you didn't just go see another provider then make up some "work" excuse. Just plan better next time and don't book so far out. Many things can happen.

Well, now, I don't think one has to be making minimum wage for one to experience a financial setback that can make it difficult to hobby at a particular time.  I definitely don't do this every weekend and I think I do it the reasonable amount of times that my income will allow.  But hey, life happens.  Things come up, especially financially unexpected things. Hell, there are times when even millionaires and billionaires need to financially prioritize.

As it's already been pointed out, I made the mistake of booking too far in advance.  I should not have done that.  This is definitely a learning experience for the future.

There's no need to go into detail about why you're canceling.  Your financial difficulties are no one's business but your own.   Apologize when you cancel, but avoid any tortured explanation about why.  You never want to appear weak in the sex trade. You're swimming in shark-infested waters.

If this girl is your long-time ATF, someone who spends a lot of off-the-clock time with you, then you can confide in her.  But that's not the case here, so be brisk & business-like.  --z
