Greek is anal sex. Why is this associated with Greeks or Greece? Because of a common stereotype that homosexual anal sex has been widely practiced since ancient times in Greece and is approved by society today. Both parts of the stereotype, of course, are totally false! Homosexuality in ancient Greece was accepted by only a small sector of elite upper-class society. Most ancient Greeks were as heterosexual as we are today. And in modern Greece, there is strong disapproval of homosexuality, and gays face much ridicule and discrimination. But the association and stupid stereotype persists and thus the term.

I'd really be interested in your evidence that the majority of the Greek upper class and the whole of each of the inferior classes did NOT accept homosexuality in "ancient times." (Neolithic? Early Bronze Age? Minoan? Mycenaean? Geometric? Classical? Hellenistic?  And which city-states might we be talking about here, whatever the period?)  Finding much evidence at all of how the lower orders lived and what they thought is very difficult.  Heck, it's even a knotty problem to establish how heterosexual or otherwise "we are today."
