I'm self-employed as well... I gave a gal I contacted my website, name, and who-is info and told her to compare, she was cool with that. I don't think anyone's trying to give you a hard time with the info, they just want to make sure they're not meeting up with a psycho to protect themselves.
i understand that providers need to protect themselves so i understand about screening clients they havent seen before.
my question is what do they do with your work phone #?? do they look it up to see if its legit?? call and ask if you work there? ask to speak to you?? im just wondering since i work in a factory and i cant leave my work to take a call. also if someone is calling to ask if i work there then they might think i am looking for another job etc.
just wondering, i havent had to give this information out yet.
I have to agree with keystonekid. I usually say I am from the bank. As far as any information I receive from potential clients....it is ALWAYS deleted after I receive the necessary information I need to feel comfortable. This is for the client's safety as well as my own. The only downside is....if I receive the necessary screening info and we are not able to meet for some reason......well the info is deleted and if they contact me again several months later to make another appointment, I have nothing on record and my memory is not the best... so I ask them to refresh my memory of the info they provided so that I can verify again. I would rather do this though ...than keep ANY info on anyone. Again.....its for safety reasons! Safety and discretion is very important to me! Lisa of Boston *smile* PS. OK - so here's my response to the work phone number part of the screening:
I am a self-employed computer programmer who works out of my house 99% of the time. I have a very short list of clients and most of my communications is by email. As such, my "work number" is a cell phone that only costs an extra $10 per month on my account. This cell phone also doubles as my "home phone" for strangers who need my number for various reasons that I don't want to give my personal number to. Because of all this, the outgoing message simply says, "You have reached (XXX) XXX-XXX. No one is available to take your call. Please leave a message."
The above is the truth! How does a provider that wants to screen your work deal with that? BTW - I do also have a regular land-line that is listed in my name...

me i get their work number double verify with 411, call human resources state your applying for a loan can yo verify he works there , i've worked for the credit bureas that's why it's easy to me i dont keep the number there would be no need to
