there is a major difference between "conscious touch", regardless of what a licensing body says, and the low energy flim flam that has infested this hobby/business in the name of massage.
What's conscious touch ?
One, you feel a connection with the person massaging you. These is a high level of unspoken communication. If it feels indifferent, impersonal, uninteresting, that's because it is. That's what that person is saying through her hands. If it feels connected, personal, involving, then that's your conversation.
Two, you feel deep autonomic responses. Your body softens, even those places that are distal (i.e. not immediate to)to the area being massaged, your heart reales, your mood mellows out, you get into a dreamy alpha/theta state, and you lose all sense of time. If that happens, your getting a good massage.
Three, the massager knows how the body is put together, i.e. massages in the direction of venous blood flow, knows how to stay off nerves, which areas are relatively sensitive and which are relatively insensitive...
Four, conscious touch involves imagination, playfulness, emotional warmth (defensive, rigid, egotistical, paranoid, and other "hard boundary" personality types do not excel at massage, for obvious reasons), spiritual generosity, and a deep love of life. Real massage is a transmission from the core of another person's being.
It also has, like all else worth doing well, a learning curve that isn't particulaly steep, but goes on for vastly further than one anticipates at first glance. Like a low hill that you think continues on for a few hundred feet becomes a rising plain that goes on for miles without end. You never stop climbing, you never stop getting better or more adept, your intuition is always more refined. That's the real thing.
