A lot of providers ask for references when setting up an appointment for the first time. I assume that it is proper and considerate to ask your past provider for permission first???

Much like a job referral, it is best to make a request first, and then a quick email to the person giving the reference, just to give them a heads up, and possibly to remind them who you are.
