I once left a provider my work number so that she could presumably verify that it was a business, or worst case ask for me to verify that I was there without providing her identity.  She called while I wasn't there spoke to my boss, identified herself (she had a colorful descriptive nickname), and then proceeded to PLUG HER WEBSITE to my boss.  Fortunately, I was able to "play it off" semi-convincingly as a prank from maybe, or maybe she was also a stripper(I have a well known bad Gentlemans Club habit).  Just my two cents

I want to see my first provider.  The agency that I want to book with wants a work phone #.  I'm a little concerned about this because I work for a defense contractor.  It would probably be my job if the company found out.  Has there ever been an instance of a provider demanding money to not tell an employer about an appointment?  Yea, I know I'm being paranoid, but better safe than sorry.  Thanks.

First don't use an agency ... 2nd. e mail an indie that appears here on TER .. and discuss your situation with her ... I'm sure the two of you can work this out. A phone call to work is not the end of the world, the ladies are very good at it, and again never use an agency ...hobby safe hobby well hobby all you can be

Everybody has to take a little risk in this -- she's taking a lot if she sees you without some screening. Choose an indy who is well reviewed here and you'll be fine. This "hobby" has lots of rewards but if you need 100% security and privacy -- it's not for you.  Be careful but be reasonable.

I give my real name, work number. etc. if asked for---I figure she is taking a bigger risk than I am if we haven't ever met..so far, it hasn't come back to haunt me...but then again, who knows?

always book direct.you will save  always check out reviews. never use a credit card or pay pal CA$H only Most providers do not keep the information. and dont be posting what you do for work on the boards.

Its worse than tats or piercings.
Response from a provider-
Work number isnt to black mail and indies will ask for it to.
It is to see that you are who you say you are and not LE posing as Joe Blow getting ready to snow her in !
If you do not provide this and you have no provider reference since you are new you will have to work with someone to get verification. LE can use their real names and have those attached to a bogus number that is listed at a bogus addy. This is why providers often prefer a work contact. Its weird I agree and somewhat nerve racking when new.. but very necc.
Find a lady here - and email like everyone else has said. But relax and be prepared to give a little to get alot more

They don't need to check your employment.

Anyone asks you for a work number, just hang up.
It's not worth your time.

Although there will be guys who'll say "Oh it is if it's the right girl" - yeah, bully for them.  But their experiecne is more the exception than rule.

Women who make you jump through a bunch of hoops before they see you are on average very snooty, mean and provide very poor or mechanical service all resulting in dissapointment.  You don't need them, move on.  Someone else will be more than willing to accept your money and provide you with better service without knowing where you work, your work number and Driver's License.

After 12 years of this has been my observation.  Doesn't mean I'm right, but this is what I've seen.

I am wrestling with that same exact question.  An agency (it could just as well be an independent, doesn't really matter for this problem) which is WELL reviewed and recommended from a fellow hobbyist I like and trust asked for a work number to verify.

As a rule, I usually don't provide that type of information.  I will provide just about everything else (full name, home phone, provider reference, driver's license and standard procedure.  In this case, I may make an exception, based on what I said above.

Bottom line, if you don't feel comfortable providing this info, select someone else who does screen but doesn't ask for your work number.
