Seeking advice on cell phones that will work in US and Canada

Can anyone recommend, or comment on personal experience with, prepaid (i.e. anonymous) cell phones that will work in US and Canada?  I am in MI near Windsor and am planning to get started on this hobby north of the border. I also travel to Canadian cities for business and would be interested in being able contact SPs in some of those cities.

I have had 7-11 Speakout and it is truely an untrackable phone. It is activated out of the box (no need to call to activate), 20 cents a minute and using the Cingular backbone (7-11 made an agreement with them, so it has good coverage), recharges by buying a refill card, and your number is good for a year everytime you recharge it (from that time of charging).

According to the coverage, Canada is 39 cents a minute.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the info, I will have to check out the Speakout option.  According to TracFone customer service, their phones will not work in Canada.  Cingular told me that their "pay as you go" phones will work in Canada, but that the roaming charges are expensive. The Cingular rep I talked to did not know the exact rates.

Thank you friends for the excellent advice. Really appreciate it. I now feel comfortable about phone calls to providers.

Will do as you all suggest and buy a cell phone. Seems from all the feedback that the 7-11 TracPhone (despite the name!) may be the best way to go, but I'll check out the Radio Shack option as well.

Happy and safe adventures to everyone, both clients and providers!
