Allright folks...I'll admit - there's nothing about hobbying that bothers me (true) other than the risk of getting herpes from BBBJ.  To which may astute hobbyists and SP might opine "well then do CBJ"...to which this humble newbie-ist might proclaim "WTF...why even engage in the hobby?".

Seriously, when one considers the number of clients a provider may see, and if she provides BBBJ for all, and if it is true many who may have genital herpes are asymptomatic - and if there is risk of genital to oral AND oral to genital transmission - then what's a poor old boy to do???

I mean, what do the providers do to see their clients are "clean"?  Does anybody have any stats on the risk of gen-oral and oral-gen transmission...i.e. how common is the crossover?  I'm also wondering if taking a pre-session dose of antiviral provides any additional protection against transmission...

Also, any thoughts on approaching this subject with a provider?  I mean, do I whip out a flashlight/tongueblade and say "say AHHHHHHHHHHHHH..."...don't think that would go over too well.

Any/all thoughts appreciated to this newbie in crisis...

Everything in this venture carries a certain amount of risk. You're having sex with someone who has multiple partners. Your engaging in something that is likely illegal in your area, etc.

Either you accept the risks and press ahead or you decide it isn't worth it and find something else. Being single and older, I'm not intimidated by getting an STD but a married hobbyist might consider the risk of spreading one to their spouse then having it show up on *her* tests and then having to explain how she could have got it, etc.

If BBBJ is the part that worries you, let the provider get you going some other way. Not necessarily a CBJ, either. For me, a sexy striptease or some skillful caressing does the trick.

True, life is a risk - but risks can and should be controlled.  I guess I'm just wondering what the relative risk of O-G or G-O transmission is?

1.  Search the Newbie board for previous threads, many of which contain your answers or links to web sites that do.

2.  Go to the Center of Disease Control web site (www.cdc.gov), where many official statistics are listed.

3.  Do a google search to find the answers.

4.  Ask your personal physician.
