I am SERIOUSLY considering becoming a provider. I don't know any providers so I need some advice. When first starting out is it better to go with an agency or be independant or does it really matter? And secondly, what steps should I take to get going? Thanks in advance. I need all the help I can get.

TER is an excellent source of information. When I made my decision to start in the business, I poured over the forums for about two weeks, taking in any and all information I could. You'll find the answers to many questions you have, and the answers to many questions you might not have known you have.

As far as agency vs. independent, that is up to you to decide. I have always been indy, but there have certainly been times I have wished to have someone else around to screen my clients and make my appointments for me. It's not easy (I can spend hours a day on email alone), but the pay is better (imo) and I can set my own hours and rates.

Regarding steps, if you go indy: If you are going to have an internet presence, then you'll likely want to get a site up and going, and have an email address where you can be contacted. I would suggest having a site professionally designed if you do not do web work yourself. It's also good if you have some photos available online. Otherwise, you will have a lot of emails simply asking you for photos. On your website, put all of your pertinent information: rates, availability, contact information, etc. This, too, will cut back on emails simply asking for information.

Once you have your site up and going, advertise. Post your link to various sites.

Come up with a screening process that makes you feel comfortable. ALWAYS SCREEN! Do not trust that if someone lists a couple of well-known providers as references, they have actually seen them. Many ladies will be more than happy to verify someone for you, so always check.
