I still dont understand..how the hell do you get started with this. This is so confusing how am I suppose to get a refrence if I dont have one!

Not every provider requests a reference.  Keep trying until you find one who doesn't.

If you look down this page 6 threads you will see a topic where someone else asked how to get references. That should be alot of help, any more questions just come back and ask.

If you don't have references, many providers will accept personal verification (screening info)  and then meet you in a public place for a drink first to make sure you're not some nutbar (some will skip this step).  But, be prepared to provide personal information.  There is a trust factor to this... we trust you're not going to pull a Phil Spector on us, you trust we're not going to publish your personal information on the CNN morning news.

On my first try, I looked for an older provider who was in her thirties and who was independant.
I called her up and told her this was my first attempt at the hobby.  She asked me no questions and it all worked out fine.
