Is it common to give a work number as a reference? I thought i saw on the newbie board or somewhere that generally guy's that are experienced hobbyist would know not to give work number as a reference. Or is this common. I would think guys would have this info handy before calling . He did give name of provider but said wasnt sure of spelling. I know you need correct spelling to look up. I tried the work number it was an answering machine. Is there alot of hobbyist that been on here for 6 years and just choose not to get whitelisted? The client caller he said he d been on ter since 06. never whitelisted. Is this common the guys don't pursue getting whitelisted after 6 years of hobbying? I d think they d want to get white listed.

that the guy really works there, thus lessening the chance that he is Uncle LEO.  They usually call and ask for the guy with some innocuous excuse like reminding him of a Dr. appt.  When they are switched to his extension, many will hang up, as they now know he does work there.

Some guys may not want whitelist referrals, to keep their exposure to a minimum, just as many providers do not want reviews.  I could not tell you how common that is, but it's possible this guy just never asked for a provider to give him a whitelist referral, without knowing anything about it.

I never even considered being white-listed. I have also given my work phone # to ladies who required it. Never once had a problem with ladies seeing me.
I do think being a regular on the TER boards, does give us a little more credibility.

I just use a tracphone with a professional greeting.

I saw a guy tonight for a late night last minute outcall. His references back East in a different time zone would likely have gone to bed. He gave me his TER handle and his white list "list" was an impressive array of top providers with many reviews each. He emailed me from the email on his TER account so I could verify it was him.

White listing is no different than Preferred411 "okays" or Date-check "recommendeds" in my opinion and I accept those as well.

I would not accept a white list reference from an un- or under reviewed provider. I can understand disregarding that.

But what is the point of white-listing if a white list reference from a reputable provider doesn't do anything to verify the guy?

I have read many provider posts that say they don't consider white list. Seems to me that would be a good additional resource for screening. What's the point if it doesn't get used for something?

I don't like giving out my work number however I have done it because a work number alone does not mean anything.

Before I begin I want to stress that any numbers I provide will be correct.

I work out of a virtual office even if you call the main number or even the main number/extension there is a 100% chance that I will answer your call on my cellphone.

Just an FYI to all office numbers/extensions do not mean anything anymore so don't use them as a reference check 100% of the time.

I've heard that some providers will still ask for references from guys on Preferred411 with okays!

Now I will do additional screening for a guy on Preferred411 with no okays, but to me, if he has multiple okays from reputable providers, we are all good.

I'm still not seeing how TER white listing by a reputable provider is any different unless I'm really missing something.

The funny thing is that girls have gotten busted who got references to verify a guy or even verified employment themselves... nothing is fool proof. All you can do is reduce your risk. But if you are too paranoid, you vastly reduce your income, too. Demand definitely allows for a more rigid screening process. Newer girls often don't have that luxury and it's tough when they are getting advice about screening from well-established girls or guys who only see well-established girls.

They had a lengthy whitelist of mostly well known providers as you describe, I would probably make an exception and go with that.
