The girl I want asked me for references and says she can't see me without references.  I'm new to this and have no references.  Where do I start?

Welcome to the hobby! This question gets asked regularly here, so feel free to do a search on this forum for more info, but there are several good ways to get started:
1. Look for newbie friendly providers in your area. A lot of providers are open to seeing you as long as you can provide some information for screening
2. Join a verification site like p411 or DateCheck
3. You can also email providers and ask them if there is any other info you can provide instead of references, and you might be surprised

SJG gave you some good suggestions.  Preferred411 is a verification site like DateCheck but often on P411 you can see if they are newbie friendly and not require such intense screening.  Until you have seen a few ladies that will reference you, you may have to provide some personal info to satisfy them.  

As hiddenhills said, you should read the self help center, you may get some ideas.

On P411 providers can list themselves as "Newbie Friendly" and requiring no OKs.  If you seek those out,you can then ask them for an OK once you've had a session with them.  Once you get a couple of OKs you can see almost anyone.  To me, it's also best if you register with Date-Check and get some "seen hers" over there.  Some providers prefer one service over another.  There are also regional preferences, like RS2K in the midwest.
But mainly, do your homework as others have suggested, and read the reviews here.  See only well-reviewed providers.
