I had a few questions.

How do you verify a hobbiests references from this site?

I'm a little new to this whole TER thing, heard of it,have review on it, but never actually surfed the site.

I'd like to know how to check references....

On it are names of providers who vouch for a hobbyist by their handle.

If a prospective client tells you he is so-and-so on the boards here and is vouched for on the white list, you can contact those providers and make sure he is who he says he is. (Someone could steal an indentity if you did not check them out.)

Note:  You need to be a VIP member to get the providers' names.

That's the only way I can think of verifying someone from TER.

get a VIP membership

The search features and data bases afforded are well worth the trivial capital investment.
IE: You can click on a reviewer in a providers review glossary and it will open a glossary of every provider he has reviewed along with the subsequent contact info to the provider in the respective provider’s profiles.

While this is a fine community for most part, there are plenty of idiots here also.  Depending upon where you are located, get yourself established with a good company that is there to pre-screeen clients.
In Chicago that is generally RS2K... elsewhere Datecheck is used... and if your happen to be somewhere that does not have access to a service like this, network with other providers in your area - there are many out there that will help, as it benefits both you and them.
There are a lot of tools at your disposal, many of which are not "acceptable" to comment on in these boards...
Good luck!

click up top on the reviews tab, then search white list for his handle or email address and you'll see which providers vouch for him.

And you'd be smart to call at least one provider and talk to her to see if he's a good guy.  Remember that just because he's not a cop, doesn't mean he's a good client.

Good for you for verifying your clients.  Many of the ladies I have seen don't check anything.

Because you are totally new to this scene you need to find some local providers that will help you with important "useful information" to keep you safe.  There are risks that you can avoid if you know some signs to look for.

If you live in an area with agencies it might help to get your feet wet with people who know the business.  That way you can focus on giving the best service possible.  Guys will return later and you know that they will be less likely to cause you problems.

Good luck
