I'm a former hobbyist who was active between 1986 and 1993 -- pre Internet, pre-DateCheck, etc. I jointed TER last month, love the site and the reviews, and would like to become active again in Dec. but I'm caught in a Catch-22.  I'm 64 and retired, so I don't have a work phone to provide DateCheck or the other services like it.  Without that I'm afraid no provider will see me.  I've tried the TER newbies board and haven't gotten an adequate response.  How do you recommend I present myself to a provider in order to give her the confidence that I'm just a nice, old, horny guy who can afford her time, and not a law-enforcement officer.  
PS:  I look young for my age, but it's clear that I'm not young enough to be a cop of any kind.  Still, I know I'm just a voice on the phone.  So how do I solve this problem?  Thanks very much for your help.

For all my clients who can't give me references or reviews, I suggest they show me their driver's license upon arrival. I can usually sense on the phone and within the first few minutes a guys demeanor.  Even with a date-check id I usually require a link to their reviews they've written or references from ladies.

Your best bet is to find newbie friendly ladies(which is not easy!) Explain your situation and try to provide as much information as she wants. Hang in there and one you get a good reference more providers will see you. After you have seen at least 2 ladies(who will vouch for you) your chances of finding more ladies will increase! We all have to start somewhere!

Thanks, Barbie, I appreciate it.  I did pick up another tip I'd like to run by the group.  I'd be happy, for starters, to simply take a gal to dinner.  That way there's no risk to the provider at all, right?  We just enjoy each others' company and some nice food.  The question is, would I be paying for the lady's time as well as for dinner?  I'm guessing, yes, but it still might be a good way to start.

Yes, you will be paying for a lady's time.  The ladies are in business and we are the client.

What you might be able to arrange is a dinner date where you meet the lady at the restaurant or hotel bar, enjoy dinner, and if she is comfortable, you go back to her room (or yours) and enjoy some play time.  Note: you will pay for all the time; dinner time isn't comped because you pay for an hour of desert.

But, that is NOT screening. Don't forget, the Craigslist killer seemed like a normal, nice guy. Anybody can be polite during dinner, and somebody who means harm will certainly not put the lady on her guard by being rude or aggressive. He would be charming, pleasant, maybe tell her that he'd love to take her on vacations or a cruise in the future. That is actually something we hear a lot as providers, too-good-to-be-true promises that usually mask an intention to short the donation or worse. This is why ladies ask for something concrete. It's not foolproof, but having a verified name, or good references, will offer more reassurance than an "I'm a really nice, normal guy, let's chat and you'll like me."

Unfortunately, I can't offer any specifics about how to solve your problem, since this is a public forum that can be read by anyone. But, basically, she will just need to verify that you are who you say you are, and are exactly as you describe yourself. Google can be her friend and yours :-) Also, have you asked p411 what they can do for people in your situation? Best of luck.

Thanks, Alison, for your perspective on this.  No, I haven't gone beyond DateCheck and will take a look at p411 to see how they handle my situation.  I totally get your point on dinner and recall the Craigslist killer (now dead by his own hand, fortunately).  If you have any suggestions you'd rather not share on this thread but would PM me with them, that would be much appreciated, if you're comfortable doing that.  And thanks for the Google idea, as I am definitely findable there and would be happy to provide all the personal info required (driver's license, name, address, whatever).  I am very serious about this and will do it the "right" way, meaning basically whateve the provider requires to feel secure.  It's sad that in this day and age we all have to jump through these hoops, but that's life I guess.

It's a web site, for hobbyist and provider that pre screens clients. There are two others as well, P411 and RS2000.

A board presence both locally and on this or other national boards may help.  It is not a substitute for references, but if you participate on your local board, you may find a local escort that will work with you. Also a pm to a lady responding to either her ad or post is also a good way to get started. Once again this is not in lieu of screening.  Good luck
