This is something I have wondered about myself. I have not seen a GFE provider yet and would like to, however I am unemployed and (obviously) have no references. What can I do to ensure a successful screening?
When I fill out the online form to make an appointment to see a high-end provider, they ask for the main phone number for my employer. What does the provider do? Call and ask for me? Do they put the call through to me and I have to answer? Or does the provider just ask if I am indeed employed there?
The cleanest way is to call and ask for you. If you answer, they may identify themselves immediately and ask if you can talk -- if not (e.g., "not right now"), they'll immediately hang up. Some will hang up before it ever rings through, and any with any sense will not leave a voice mail unless you've invited them to. My ATF, when invited, will identify herself as an old friend, insurance agent, nurse at doctor's office, etc. should the secretary answer -- however you've instructed. Generally, they have this part of the screening pretty well figure out, though I'm sure there are horror stories out there. For me -- I've never been burned by it, but I screen pretty carefully myself -- only well-reviewed independents.
If they asked if you were employed there, that would be complicated. Are you applying for a loan, looking for another job, etc.? Much better to ask to speak to you.
