advise on how to handle cancelations please

I am requesting advise on how you ladies handle cancellations. I know Im probably going to get the response "well that's just the nature of the business" but I figured id try and see what advise is out there (im new to this be kind to me..lol )

I have on several occasions scheduled appointments with men....several days in advance all details worked out. During the days leading up to that date and time..i have got requests from other men, being the considerate and believing in honoring my commitments kind of lady. I have had to turn down these other requests saying I was already booked. I always contact my scheduled appointment the day off (sometimes even the night before) to confirm...only to get "oh sorry I cant now" or something came up or whatever. Which now leaves me with the night open and having turned down other gentleman.
On one occasion even after confirming and being told 'yes come" I drove 2 hours (one way) to meet this man..only to find out when I got there..he had checked out an hour before I got there...when I finally reached him he said 'without feeling "oh sorry something came up..too bad"
Any advise ?? do I need to Take a deposit or something? geeze

Kara,I try to handle things as you do,what I do differently is I say to the person I can't see cause I am booked could I get your number (you should have it anyways never take unblocked call I'm sure you already know that)or if they would like to call you maybe an hour or two before to see if you had any cancellations!!!I have gotten alot of work this way,with many happy hobbiests!!!!I don't know if you do incall it's easier if someone cancels, plus the way I do it I have back up!!!I don't know if you take credit cards I don't but that is another option get a deposit on the card, ESPECIALLY if it is the first time you have seen the person. Also if this person tries to make another appt. with you I would ask for a DEPOSIT western union there is a way!!!Mostly I tell all my clients I understand life happens, please call as soon as you know you can't make it!!!!A Leaving thought for every jerk out there ,there's at least three GREAT GUYS to that every one, I have great clients, I am still pretty new myself but I took the advice from the people I saw that were being successful!!!!!!GOOD LUCK!!!Call me 617-448-3154 Love, Nicole

Kara, this happenned to me alot when I first started. You are dealing with mostly new people. Many are not serious. With a new person, I suggest you get a referral. More serious clients will have atleast one or two. Get a contact number, such as a cell phone or office #, never a pager. Do not email a confirmation with a new client. Call them the day before the appt and the morning of the day they are booked. Let them know they should call you asap if there is any reason they have to cancel.

As your biz grows, this will happen alot less. Unfortunetly it's something you have to put up with alot in the beginning, but it will get better. Do the double confirmation, get atleast one referral and it will eliminate alot of the BS clients. You can always ask for a deposit, but it may discourage some nice guys from booking. However, I know girls who wont even book without a deposit, so it maybe a good idea if they dont have a referral. Good Luck to you, Alyssa
