The trick is to be sure to do your research and meet with well reviewed providers who would never do these kind of scams (The worst ones are where her "friends" hop out of the closet, convince you to leave all your valuables and then leave, maybe along with your clothing.)
The hobby is not for everyone. You have to have some sense of adventure and be able to trust your senses to avoid danger.
But 99.99999% of the time you will enjoy a very enjoyable session and see why this is America's fastest growing hobby. (Don't ask me to prove that, however 8o).

In general, the person who gets to stay in the room after the appointment is over is the person who pays for the room. Providers are often able to get good deals on rooms through services like Priceline, and can generally amortize the cost over multiple visitors; a leased apartment will be even less expensive (compare a 30-day hotel fee to a monthly apartment rent). I'd also advise strongly against putting a room on your card and then letting anyone else stay there without being present to supervise; minibar charges may be the least of your worries. This isn't meant to imply that all providers would take advantage of such a situation, but some would do so.
You have to let your good judgement take over. It is often said to think with the big head and not the little head. If you only see well-reviewed ladies who have been reviewed by established hobbyists (not guys with 1 or 2 reviews), you should be fine. Also, if going to meet the lady at a hotel, don't go into the wrong part of town to some flea-bag motel that rents rooms by the hour. Just like the ladies prefer 3-star and above hotels, so should you.
