Help Get Started

I have been coming to this site for a couple of yesra and now I want to get into the hobby. I emailed a provider on this site and asked how do I get to meet her. She said that she didn't meet anyone who didn't have references from other providers. I have never been with a provider so I don't have any references. She was very nice in her emails and I understand but how does a guy get started from scratch?? I see you talking about 411 and Date Check. is signing up with them good enough to get started. Any help will be appreciated.
