Newbie here of course. I'm going to try a provider for the first time to see if it's something I'm into but don't want to go through the hassle of getting a hobby phone. Would it be safe to use my regular cell phone to set up a meeting?
I did some searching for my phone number and did not see it linked to any personal information so I'm thinking it will be safe but I might just be naive about it.
You will probably hear many takes on this. This is just how I feel. If you are married a cheap prepaid would be the way to go. You can keep it at the office hid away. I think most married guys do their sessions during the day and then go back to work and you can then hide it away for your next play day. If you are single I guess it depends on how deep you are going to get into the hobby. If you are just going to do this a little bit I would not worry about a second phone. If you plan on breaking records you may want to get a cheap prepaid as a hobby phone.
If I had it to do all over I would have got a cheap prepaid but I had no idea I would do this as much as I do now. But it's not a problem as I am single and free to mingle. If you are gonna do this just once a week and are single then don't worry about it and you can delete that call record if it does bother you.

Keeping the phone at the office is out of the question in my situation. As long as the provider isn't trying to call me to try and set up another appointment I should be okay.
Do providers ever call out of the blue? I have a SO and if I do become a real hobbyist then I'll consider a hobby phone...

Single, no SO, prob not, unless someone else may have access to your phone. Married or have SO, definitely yes. I'm in the single category, and do not have one, as I have no one to hide my hobbying from.
Shut it off when not in use. Hide it well. Start out right. tracks are forever. Also use seperate private email. Take all security. Guys have been caught before their first fling! Getting caught will cost more than a hobby phone. There is a learning curve & you'll continually find ways to improve your security... but don't start out being sloppy.
