I had a session today where the gentleman requested that I get the room in my name and he'd reimburse me. So I got the room and once I was in the room called him to let him know which one I was in.
Thirty min into a two hr session, the phone in the room rang. I answered it and it was the front desk asking if everything was alright and did I need anything. The gentleman I was with totally freaked out, said he travels all the time and has stayed at alot of hotels and never has anyone called the room just to check on things. He ended the session and left.
Since I'm fairly new to all this was just wondering if some hotels/motels do this as part of customer service? its not like we were making alot of noise or there was alot of traffic coming and going, it was 2pm and it was just the two of us.
I am a pretty heavy business traveler and stay in moderate priced motels to 4 star hotels and I get follow up calls from the front desk from many of them. Don't know why your client got spooked, maybe he was a newbie. Next time you check in, you might tell the front desk no need to call the room.
I'd be careful w/ unplugging the phone. I did the once in a hotel (in Brazil) and that resulted in security and a repair guy coming to my room, since the phone system reported there was an issue w/ the phone. Now I was alone at the time, so no problem, but...
Yes, it happens in many hotels. You can avoid this by calling the hotel operator when you get to your room and telling him/her that you do not want to be disturbed.
I too travel around quite a bit--it's typical at a decent hotel. If it ever happens to you again you can tell your client that it's not uncommon and that should calm him down. Tood bad it ruined the fun.
I've also had them while traveling with my family. I didn't thik anything of it at the time but can see how it would be disturbing. There's only 1 phone in most rooms... I agree unplug it. skb
Too bad that he got spooked. I get one everytime I check in too....definitely take the phone off the hook or just tell them not to "courtesy call" you. xoxo
