In the interest of discretion I'd like to ask the following.
My date wants me to check into the room and call her back from there with room #.
Does she immediately call the front desk and ask for me by name? This wouldn't seem too discreet 10 minutes after I check in.  Just curious on how it is done.

I doubt the front desk clerk will even remember your name 10 minutes later.  Besides, many hotels have an automated system to transfer calls to guests.

It won't arouse any suspicion. It's a hotel, the switchboard is ringing all day and the front desk clerk is not the one answering the phones...

Sounds to me like she's asking for your room number so she'll know where to go to meet you? She wouldn't need the room number to confirm that someone by your name was staying there...

I ask everybody I'm meeting at their hotel to call me with the room number once they check in.  Otherwise how would I know where to go?

If you call OUT to her, no one else would be involved.  Use house phone or your cell.  Give her the room number & wait for the knock at the door.  Check her through the viewer, open the door.
