yes your drivers license is part of your id and if you check their info you will see an explanation of how it works. they even tell you what parts of the license you can cover if a provider wants to check your p411 id with your license. Secondly as someone who had to use the alternate means, what they requested of you is standard. P411 has been around and is reputable, I did not have any major qualms about sending them the info needed. I would rather do that then send similar info to several providers.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback from any of you Hobby Vets.  P411 is requesting a copy of my Driver's License, DBA for my self-owned business and a copy of my cell phone bill for verification, because I don't have a provider reference as yet.  Is this a standard request in this situation?  Has anyone else has similar requests for verification?  In short, is my info and personal documentation, especially my Driver's License, safe with P411, especially in this day and age of Identity Theft?  What would you Hobby Vets do in this situation, if you were just getting established and starting out in the Hobby today?  Please advise.  Any input is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

I never had to give up my DL, or any other of the stuff you mention.  Not sure, but I think I had a provider recommendation for membership there.

Sorry not more help on that matter.

As an independant I have asked for a DL number, age and address to run a background check on a man who is self-employed and has no references.

Most who contact me either have regular employment and/or a provider reference. But once in a while they are a self-employed newbie and I ask for that info. Some give it, some move on. Either way is fine.

You have a better chance of getting your identity stolen online when buying something that you have with P411. They have a reputation to uphold. In this business the ONLY thing we have is our reputation. Without a good one we may as well quit the business.

If it bothers you that much try to see someone off P411 who doesn't require references then use her to vouch for you on P411.

Ask them if they mind you sending a copy  blocking the drivers license# or for some their social security# since they dont really need it they just want to know who you are. When I had that problem I gave them an alternative professional license with only my name and picture only

For what it's worth, I feel Gina who runs p411 has a great thing going. I give priority to clients who contact me from p411. I am able to contact their previous providers and have more info on client than any other website.

I say...go for it. Some of us providers also submit DL to advertise on certain sites.

Keep it safe!

Gina and her crew are very professional. The reason for your DL is you use it in combination when creating your P411 ID. This allows a provider to check the sequence of numbers that makes up your P411 ID against a form of ID that you carry.

You can always try to book with ladies that will do their own screening. Then apply for P411 or Datecheck with a provider reference.

From what I remember, P411's servers are located outside the USA. That makes it a little more difficult for LE to get to the database. I would hope that P411 disposes of the info after you give it to them.

In this day and age of identity theft, I'll admit I was concerned about the safety of my info, but with your affirmation of the utmost security, recommendations from some other Hobby Friends and how graciously and professionally the folks at P411, like Lori & Nicole, I went ahead and sent that information.  Thanks for easing my concerns.  It was also great to know as an added bonus that they are located in Canada - just one more little element of security that makes the entry into the Hobby a little more comfortable.  Appreciate all the support that everyone on TER gives, especially on the Newbie Board.  THANKS!!!!
