Because I'm retired, I faced the same problem when I started. My solution was to offer to pay her fee and meet a provider in the public place of her choice. She selected a nice pub/grill for lunch, where we had a good visit to establish a comfort level for her (and me). It was an expensive lunch, considering her hourly fee. But, after subsequently having an appointment with her, she provided a reference for another provider who only required one reference, then two references were available and I was on my way.
Hobby phone. Best anyway. You will probably need to explain your work situation & employ alternate screening methods. Self Employed & retired can still get screened. skb

but no lady has ever accepted. Employment only goes so far anyway. Really, the lady needs to know you are who you say. That you won't do her injury, will pay the fee & leave when you are supposed to. She neeeds to be as sure as possible that you are not LE. This is really not too much... there are several ways to achieve this confidence. skb
