Other boards have their specfic purposes as well, but they are all pretty much supposed to relate to the hobby someway.  (The Sport and Politics and Religion Boards are exceptions.)

If you would just like to rhapsodize about this and that, I would suggest the board linked below.

There, anything goes (and often does).

Posting is just basically a communication to the board (no matter which board you are on) as a whole.  As long as you are within the forum rules, you can post anything you want.  Keep in mind, however, you are inviting responses with your post, and that, in turn, leads to discussion.  That's basically what these boards are all about.

Now, having said that, you should do several things before you jump right in:

Read the Newbie Manual linked at the top of the board.  A lot of experienced hobbyists and board members have put together some great info there.

Read the posting guidelines also linked above.  Again, those are the rules of the road, and there is some advice contained within them as well.

Read back a few months on the boards that you are interested in posting on.  Get a feel for the community as a whole.  

Then start making your foray into the discussions.

For example.  The post that I did not approve was not appropriate for this board as it requests specific information about a specific region.  It was more appropriate for the Boston or New England Boards, but the way it was written would probably not have garnered the results you wanted.

Keep in mind that all members are naturally suspicious of new players due to a number of concerns.  The reason that we have this particular board is so that new members, whether new to the hobby or not, can have a place to go to get general information and advice without smacking into the wall of suspicion.

Before you put up a 411 information request about providers in your area, you would be better off introducing yourself to the regional board and participating in some discussions so that you can lessen the natural suspicion.
