I had that problem when I started. E mail is a great tool for establishing a relationaship with a  potential provider.  Choose a moderately priced provider who has a website and who is reviewed, explain your situation.  As e mails exchange, trust develops. Once you visit that provider, you have established a "reference" for meeting future providers...assuming you were a gentleman and read the newbie manual.  Good luck.

How do newbies obtain references when everyone requires references to start with?

and so, if you enter the phrase "newbie references" into the search feature here, you will find about a year's worth of reading on the subject.

The short answer is thus:

Many providers will see a newbie if they present enough personal information about themselves to make them comfortable with you.

Your manner of approaching them will probably be the most important factor.  Read the Newbie Manual that is linked on this page from cover to cover to learn how to be a success at this hobby.

Best of luck.

You just have to find a lady who is willing to take a chance on a newbie.  Be prepared for your screening to be more thorough the first time.  Some providers list themselves as "newbie friendly".  I was lucky and found such a lady on the first try, but, as has been pointed out on this board, you may have to try several providers before you have success.  Be persistent and patient and you will be rewarded.

The other avenue is to join one of the 3 major verification services.  Your search should bring this information to your screen.

not necessarily a cure-all, particularly for a newbie.  She may ask for certain additional particulars even if you've joined a verification service.

now at least I have 1 reference from a well reviewed provider. Not only that, but since she was well reviewed I knew she'd be great... which she is.

Agencies are a little easier to get through the screening process with (so I've been told)
