I use my current username on other websites and I want to change it on TER. Can I do that and keep the same account or should I just cancel and open a new one?
Also when I go to the login page on TER my username and password automatically show up. I use Google Chrome, which I have access to kind of hidden in my computer. I did not mean to choose the option to remember password, but now I cant get rid of it.
My SO is not very good on computers, like me, but I would still like to have some extra security just in case. Thanks!

Definitely change your username to something not so personal. I had a similar situation to you and did this early on. The TER staff got it handled right away.

I actually use Opera (its free) as my Hobby browser (not Firefox or Explorer). No one in our house knows what it is so they are not likely to open a program simply called Opera. Perhaps make that your Hobby browser. You can also "delete private data" which clears all links and passwords from Opera each time you shut down.

If you regularly use Firefox, its likely you are going to forget to clear one day, or red flags might pop up when your SO does become more savvy and wonders why things are being 'cleared' all the time.

Separate Hobby and personal as much as possible or you will slip up one day.

I also go into the START menu and right click "remove from this list" the Opera program so that it doesn't show up in recent activity after I leave.

Probably the best tip I got off this board though was to pick up a cheap non-traceable Hobby cell phone from WalMart. Otherwise any call you make from your cell or home can be tracked is needed.

By all means, click on the contact us link above & they'll change your user name...  ONCE.  Use a totally different user-name & pass words.  Use a hard top crack password.
Use a (free) private email account.
Never use the computer for private e-mail or TER or hobby if anyone is in the house.
If you have used IE get a program like Windows Washer to clean the tracks forensically.
Increase your pocket cash so you don't need ATM withdrawals for the hobby.
Never use a credit card someplace yu should not be.
Get a hobby phone...  I like my TrakFone...  I leave it off except when hobbying.  I swap out my regular phone on the way to a date & swap back on leaving.
When I began the hobby, I promised myself I'd not do anything stupid...  then I realized I was not as careful as I should have been and it was only luck I was not caught.  Luck is not to be counted on.

It's in fact SAFER as a browser for TER than Opera and EASILY is set to CLEAR ALL private data AUTOMATICALLY every time you close it. If you are going to give advice to Newbies, KNOW what you are talking about.

The problem with clearing data from any browser is, everything gets cleared, not just the stuff you want to hide. Someone else who uses your computer might wonder why the browser history is blank.

I haven't tried Chrome or IE 8 yet but I think I've read that each allows you to clear data from a starting point to an end point.

Here's what I do: I use Windows XP PCs with Firefox 3.0.x. I click on Start > Run, then type "firefox -P" (without the quotes) and click OK. I set up a Firefox profile for my secret activities, naming it something innocuous like "testing profile," and then selecting the option to clear all data when I close it. Then, when I want to use it, I select this profile AND I uncheck the box that says "Don't show this dialog (or whatever) again." When I'm done being secretive, I close Firefox, launch it again, select the default profile, AND check the box I said to uncheck before.

To be even safer, in the event that someone else who uses your PC knows about Run, go to Run again, type in (or select from the pull down field) "cmd" and click OK. Then just close the window that pops up. That way, the next time someone uses Run, cmd and not firefox -P will be the default option.
