it means the image couldn't load for some reason. This could be the result of the image not existing any longer, or your computer not loading it.

Since it's only on occasion, it's probably something wrong with the link to the image and not your computer. Do you have an example of an image that shows up as a red x for you? maybe if you post a link to a site where this happens, someone can confirm whether the image works or not.

I have a Dell computer with Vista.  How come sometimes where there is supposed to be a picture, I just get a little box with a red X in it?

free hosts providers use because someone notice that the content of the picture violates the term of service. That is, it contains nudity.

I have the same problem from time to time.

Right click on the X, this will bring up a box with a line called:  Properties.

Highlight the properties and then copy and paste them into a browser.

Often you will then get the picture.

It doesn't always work however.

Sometime a person will put illegal characters into the URL, and that's why the picture does not work.

In that case, call the FBI and report the illegal characters to them.

Also if it occurs with pages that have displayed ok in the past, you should try clearing your temporary internet files. Usually found under Tools / Internet Options.

That has nothing to do with your computer, as mrfisher pointed out it has to do with the way the pic was put up.

I do have a question for you
Have your been able to find "The Farmer in The DELL"
