I know that some questions are just plain impolite to ask. If so, just let me know so we can end the discussion.

I was watching a show where white providers were mentioned in favorable terms, possibly akin to valuable or rare. Providers who were women of color were  unfortunately mentioned in the context of being common.

Is this an established attitude? Are there terms used to describe this?

You can't just box anyone into any category.. There is a lot of good and bad in this business .. My feeling is that research avoids all the stereotypes and biased info from the media.. Do your research.. You will open your mind to tons of possibilities and choices that you never thought existed, African American providers unfortunately are misunderstood as well as providers with Hispanic origin like myself..

...it is in the eye of the beholder, and context.  Nothing less and nothing more.

I find that race can play a role (IMO) and region. When I lived in the South, my beauty was very appreciated (curvy and brown skin). Living in the SF Bay Area now, white and asian spinners are what most clients look for.

Since joining the TER community, I have seen several threads about race! Most of them about race being a factor when choosing a provider, and a factor when screening a hobbyist!.. It seems that race affects both hobbyist and provider...

As mentioned above- a curvier provider is appreciated more in some places, where a blonde spinner is appreciated more in other places. I also know that ethnicity is sometimes asked during the screening process. (Such as some wont see African Americans and others won't see Asian clients.) While I agree very much that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, race definitely seems to be a factor! :/
