At the risk of sounding naive, I'd like to know how does a new provider tactfully and subtly ask to be reviewed by her dates?

When the time comes for you or your date to leave, mention that you are a member of TER, and that if he is a member, he should feel free to write a review, if he'd like. If he says he's not a member, encourage him to sign up, and let him know that he gets 15 days of free VIP membership for every review that gets posted. You might also offer to whitelist him.

Also, start participating on your local board. You can put up an ad once every 7 days. That will get the local guys interested, once they know who you are. Stick around, The reviews may take a little time, but they will come.

ask the gentleman if he would be kind enough to write a review.  Some guys do and some don't.  

Do not ask before the date begins or else the guy will think you are trying to influence the date.

You can mention in your e-mail that, if your client is a reviewer, you would welcome a review as testimonials from satisfied clients is your best form of advertising.
