Ok, I'm not a newbie but find this board more helpful then my home base. So here's the back story. I have a medical condition that requires daily meds to help me through the day. I went to the dr and they gave an additional medication and I took it when I got home. The problem is it made me extremely tired and I fell asleep and missied my appointment. I was out cold for four hours. In hind sight I should have set an alarm. With that said I sent an apoligy email but wondering if I should do more.
...You should book another appt. and pay her for the missed appt. as well. If you don't want to eat the cost of the missed appt., you should bill the dr. for the money you lost due to his malpractice. If he doesn't pay, take him to small claims court. You can say the meds made you miss an appt. and you had to pay a non-refundable fee for "therapy."
Either she accepts your apology, or she doesn't. If she does, and tells you she does, I'd try to reschedule. If she doesn't, move on. and hope it doesn't happen again.
Because you established contact after.. Some people won't even have the common courtesy to call or email, they just disappear leaving us hanging. I don't see why she wouldn't be willing to reschedule being that this situation was out of your control.
First right thing is you owned it. Admitted YOUR mistake, not setting an alarm. I'm on a lot of meds so I feel your pain. Second right thing, You apologized. I would suggest you try to reschedule. She might or might not agree to. If she does, you should give a nice tip. I would not try to buy your way into a meeting by offering more money but I would express your 'appreciation'... then without comment follow it up with the tangible token. From her point of view, There is added risk (of no show) in rescheduling with you. If she chooses not to see you... don't make a fuss, just more on. Who knows, you might circle back at some future time.
You did the right thing in emailing and explaining. Sometimes things just happen. If it were me I wouldnt want or need you to pay more (unless I booked a hotel room for just you). Some dark chocolate would be "apology" enough
